Cherokee State Qualifying - Saturday July 9

Hello Cherokee County Swim Teams,

We have some great news for this summer season. Due to a rule change with GRPA and thanks to your submissions of Rosters we have been approved to host our own Cherokee County Qualifier Meet. This means that will we be able to qualify 3 swimmers in each individual event and 3 relays for each event!!! This is an exciting opportunity for our swimmers!!! Also, our Cherokee County Qualifier Meet and the GRPA Class A State meet will be hosted right here in our own Pool on Saturday, July 9 at 9:00 am!!!

Included in this email is a lot of information, and I will explain each piece. Please make the effort to get this to your swimmers ASAP as we have deadlines that will happen quicker than we would like. Because we will have a Cherokee County Qualifier no times will be submitted for that meet.

First Deadline: June 28th @5pm Meet form, Concussion form, Copy of Birth Certificate or Current passport, and payment (check or cash) are due to the Aquatic Center.

  1. Cherokee Meet Form- this form is to be completed for each swimmer. You must select your events to swim. You will also note that they are no relays. We ask that your swimmer select the 25/50 yd swim that is appropriate by age. We will make relays based on best times from this meet.
  2. Concussion form- This is to assure that as a parent you are aware of the potential for concussions and the risks. It just has to be signed by the parent, we do not require the child signature.
  3. Parent meetings- We will have virtual parent meetings for informational purposes on the processes, practices, and more. The links to those meetings are included on this attachment.
  4. Meet Timelines- This provides information on how we will manage practices before the county meet as well as the state meet and what the plans are leading up to the state meet.

We are beyond excited for this opportunity for our Cherokee County swimmers and hope that we will have a big turn out for the County Meet!!

We look forward to seeing you at the pool

Sandy Springs State Qualifying

The City of Sandy Springs would like to invite you to participate on the Sandy Springs State Swim Team. This is an all-star team that will represent the city of Sandy Springs in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) State Swim Meet at the Cherokee Aquatic Center on July 22nd and July 23rd, 2022.

Eligibility: To be eligible to swim on the Sandy Springs (SS) State Team, you must either be a resident of Sandy Springs or live in Fulton County and swim on a summer team that is located in Sandy Springs. Additionally, in order to qualify for the SS State team, you must swim in the GA Tech ASA Championship Meet (June 29 through July 2) and place in the top 3 for your event of those Sandy Springs swimmers who wish to participate on the State Team. This does not mean you have to place first, second, or third overall, just of the participating Sandy Springs swimmers. So, for example, if you are a 7 year old boy who places 50th overall but in the top three of the Sandy Springs swimmers who swim the 25 breaststroke event, then you can join the SS State Team. This may seem confusing, so if you have any questions about whether or not you qualify, please ask because you very likely will and we would love to have you on our team!

Process: To indicate that you want to participate on the SS State Team, please have your coach place a SP5 in front of your first name and preferred name in Swimtopia for your entries in the ASA Championship Meet at GA Tech. This is how we will know that you would like to participate on our team. One additional suggestion (but not requirement): Please select 2 individual events plus 1 additional event as exhibition in the ASA Championship meet at GA Tech. This gives you the best possibility of being selected for the state team and maximizes the number of events you can swim at the GRPA State Swim Meet.

Details: The cost for the swimmers will be $115 which will cover entry fees for the meet, t-shirts, caps, and coaches. Our team will be co-coached once again this year by Ben Miller and Luke Miller.

Practices will begin on Tuesday, July 5th at Spalding Woods Pool located at 900 Spalding Drive, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. The practice schedule is not finalized, but most likely, the 7-10 year olds will practice from 8:30am-9:30am and the 11 and up will practice from 9:30am - 10:30am. Our practices will be on Mondays through Fridays, but we may add some additional evening practices depending on pool and swimmer availability.

This was a lot of information, but what I need from you first is for you to email me or call me and let me know that you are interested, so that I can add you to my distribution list. Also, feel free to share this information with any other Sandy Springs swimmers who may be interested in the Sandy Springs State Team. This is a super fun event and gives your swimmers an additional 3 weeks of swim team. It is a great way to keep the summer fun going!

Please don't hesitate to email me with any questions or if you need any additional information.
