Sandy Springs State Qualifying
Hello Sandy Springs Swim Team Swimmers,
The City of Sandy Springs would like to invite you to participate on the Sandy
Springs State Swim Team. This is an all-star team that will represent the city
of Sandy Springs in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) State
Swim Meet at the Columbus Aquatic Center on July 14 and July 15, 2023.
There is a very quick turnaround this year to get the team organized and
entered into the meet, so please pay close attention to the details in this
email and contact me by June 28th to let me know if you are
interested.
Eligibility: To be eligible to swim on the Sandy Springs (SS) State Team, you must either be
a resident of Sandy Springs or live in Fulton County and swim on a summer team
that is located in Sandy Springs. Additionally, in order to qualify for the SS
State team, you must swim in the GA Tech ASA Championship Meet (June 28 through
June 30) and place in the top 3 for your event of those Sandy Springs swimmers
who wish to participate on the State Team. This does not mean you have to place
first, second, or third overall, just of the participating Sandy Springs
swimmers. So, for example, if you are a 7 year old boy who places 50th overall
but in the top three of the Sandy Springs swimmers who swim the 25 breaststroke
event, then you can join the SS State Team. This may seem confusing, so if
you have any questions about whether or not you qualify, please ask because you
very likely will and we would love to have you on our team! **If you
are unable to swim at the GA Tech Championship Meet and would still like to be
considered for the SS State Team, please email me ASAP.
How to Enter: To indicate that you want to participate on the SS State Team, please have your
coach place an SP5 in front of your first name and preferred name
in Swimtopia for your entries in the ASA Championship Meet at GA Tech. This is
how we will know that you would like to participate on our team.
One additional suggestion (but not requirement): Please select 2 individual events plus 1 additional event as exhibition in the ASA Championship meet at GA Tech. This gives you the best possibility of being selected for the state team and maximizes the number of events you can swim at the GRPA State Swim Meet.
Cost: The cost for the swimmers will be $115 which will cover entry
fees for the meet, t-shirts, caps, and coaches. Our team will be coached again
this year by Ben Miller and Luke Miller.
Practices will begin on Monday, July 3rd at Spalding Woods Pool located at 900
Spalding Drive, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. The practice schedule is not
finalized, but most likely, the 6-10 year olds will practice from 8:30am-9:30am
and the 11 and up will practice from 9:30am - 10:30am. Our practices will be on
Mondays through Fridays, but we may add some additional evening practices
depending on pool and swimmer availability.
This was a lot of information, but what I need from you first is for you to
email me or call me and let me know that you are interested, so that I can add
you to my distribution list. No one is automatically added to the Sandy
Springs Team. Also, feel free to share this information with any other
Sandy Springs swimmers who may be interested in the Sandy Springs State Team.
This is a super fun event and gives your swimmers an additional 2 weeks of swim
team. It is a great way to keep the summer fun going!
Please don't hesitate to email me with any questions or if you need any
additional information.
God
bless,
Joan Miller
