As you are preparing for the 2021 Season, please ensure your coaches and volunteer staff are completing the Coaches Certification and Background Checks prior to the start of any team activities.  As we discussed in our March Pre-Season Meeting, ASA has partnered with Summer League Swimming to allow all coaches in the league to obtain their required background check, as well as a valuable coaches certification course at no cost to the coach or team. This is required for ALL coaches in ASA.

Background checks are required for all coaches and assistant coaches. We have partnered with Sterling Volunteers to provide a level 2 background check that includes a current county/state of residence search going back 7 years, plus monthly updates. This goes above and beyond the level 1 background check that searches the national criminal database.

If a coach is under 18, the Sterling Portal provides all documents that will need to be signed by a parent to proceed with the check.

VOLUNTEERS, OFFICIALS, TEAM REPS, STAFF, and PARENTS

ALL ADULTS HAVING REGULAR ACCESS TO A SWIMMER ARE ENCOURAGED TO OBTAIN A BACKGROUND CHECK. 

COACH CERTIFICATION COURSE

All coaches and assistant coaches are required to complete the coach certification course with a passing grade of 80% or higher. Each coach will receive a certificate of completion that must be presented to their team rep.

Everyone participating in summer league, including parents, are invited to take the coach course. It is a great course that teaches positive and leadership in coaching and in life.

THE COST

Coaches and assistant coaches will not charged for background checks and access to the course. Please share the link below with your coaches for access.
