| 2022 ASA Season Meeting 1 Reminder and Agenda
March 17, 2022
Teams,
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Just a quick reminder, we have a
date for our first organizational meeting of the year, it will be Monday,
March 21 at 6:30 pm. The agenda for the meeting can be viewed at ASA March 21 Meeting
Agenda . This will be a Zoom meeting, details are below.
We hope to welcome back the teams that were unable to swim in 2021 and be
at full strength. If you have not done so already please get the ball
rolling with your HOA and neighborhoods so you can come up with the best
way to make your 2022 season a reality.
Dates for 2022 are set and listed below. Meets will
fire up in late May, with the ASA Championship being held June 29 – July
2. We will have timed final sessions, unlike last year we will have a
schedule of who swims on what days/times will be sent to teams in the next
month or so. The plan is to return to the 2 pool format for the
Championship. Teams that normally swim on Tuesday nights will swim on
June 29 or 30 (Wednesday or Thursday); teams that swim on Thursday nights
will swim on July 1-2 (Friday or Saturday). If you have specific scheduling
requests for your dual meets, please e mail me to let me know. The
deadline for schedule requests will be Wednesday, March 23.
As always, our league website https://asa.swimtopia.com/
has a wealth of information on the league and the coming season. You
can always find resources like team contacts, league rules, recaps and
recordings of league meetings, league news, championship meet information
and results as well as training resources.

2022 Season Items
Background Checks and Coaches Certification’
As has been the case for the last couple of years, ASA is
requiring ALL coaches, ages 16 and older, to undertake a background check
in order to coach in the league. These coaches are also required to
complete the coaches’ certification course as well. Any person on your
management team that has regular one on one interaction with members of
your swim team must also complete a background check prior to the start of
practice. These requirements must be met before the first day of
practice for your team. Full instructions on how to complete these
requirements can be found at ASA Background Check and
Coach Certification Instuctions
. Also included in this document are contacts with Summer League Swimming,
the company proving this service, and a full list of FAQ’s that should
provide answers to most of your questions. The cost for the background
checks and coaches’ certification are covered by ASA, use the coupon code
contained in the instructions to avoid being charged. Please remember,
the results of the background checks and coaches’ certification are not
automatically sent to the team or the league. It is the responsibility
of the team to get those from the coach as they cannot be shared without
that person’s consent. Full instructions on how to obtain your results
and then share them with your team are contained in the
instructions. Please make sure your team meets these requirements, as
they are designed to enhance the safety of your programs and protect your
athletes and teams. Teams failing to do this are subject to penalties
and fines from ASA.
What is the plan for a championship meet at the end of the
season? We plan on having a championship meet at Georgia Tech
June 29 – July 2. It will be a timed final format. We expect a
return to normal operations; use of 2 pools for competition, spectators
will be allowed, volunteers will be needed. Most importantly, we do
not have to wait for entries to slot teams into sessions. We plan on
having a full schedule of who will swim on what day and We were able
to host the GHSA State Meet earlier in February and know that we can make
our championship meet work.
What is the plan for 19 year old swimmers for 2022? In
2021 we allowed all 19 year old swimmers to participate, regardless of
whether or not they were enrolled in high school that school
year. This was a one time accommodation to allow the scores of swimmers
who missed their senior season due to COVID to get a final summer swim
season. Our plan for 2022 is to return to our normal process and only
allow 19 year old’s who were enrolled in high school that same school year
to compete in the league.
What do we need to do now?
If you have not done so already, start coordinating with
your HOA/ Pool Board, as well as pool management company. They will be
able to provide guidance on what your pool can and cannot do. These
groups are instrumental in making your season a reality. The sooner
you coordinate with them the smoother your summer will go.
Communicate with your families on your team, give them a
heads up on the season and your plans. You may not be able to
provide all of the details they are looking for, but the news that you are
planning on having a season will hopefully get them engaged for the 2022
season.
Please complete the survey/Google doc to give us an idea
about your team’s status for 2022 as well as provide us with any specific
scheduling requests, preferred championship dates, and current ribbon
inventory. Please click on 2022
ASA Team Status Form to provide
your responses. Your feedback is crucial for our planning
purposes. We know it is subject to change, so answers you provide are
non-binding, but will be very helpful in letting us plan for the summer.
Open registration now. As I referenced earlier, we plan
on having a season, getting registration open now will help you all get a
better handle on what to expect for your team for this season.
Make meet requests now. As is the case every season we
allow teams to make requests for their schedule; in particular this can be
specific dates you can or can't host a meet or teams you want to or don't
want to swim. This can be done via the Google form mentioned earlier
in this e mail.
Please send any possible rule changes you would like
discussed during the meeting so we can place them on the agenda for our
meeting.
