Parking and Presidential Debate Traffic Update – NEW
INFORMATION
Teams,
I know I have drilled this into our Thursday teams, but we
just got a new update from Georgia Tech. 10th Street will be closed much
earlier than originally announced. What was originally a 2 pm closure is
now a 4 am closure. This does not change the fact that you should avoid
that area anyway, but it does have a little more impact on the teams
swimming in the morning. Bottom line, your best means of getting to the
pool for either session will likely be to use I 75 and the Northside Drive
exit to get to the pool. It avoids most of the chaos in midtown and along
the connector. Again, please plan some extra time into your arrival, and be
sure to use your traffic aps to find the best route to get here.
Below is the general reminder I have been sending teams,
Please share with your families.
The Presidential Debate will be at CNN on June 27 at 9 pm.
As far as Georgia Tech has informed us there will be no direct impact on
campus, specifically the Aquatic Center and immediate area. This will only
impact the sessions on Thursday. Wednesday and Friday will be our normal
setup. Full details for all days are below.
It is expected that 10th St. will be closed beginning at 2
pm (possibly earlier). Waze or Google Maps will be your best friend
bottom line. Use 750 Ferst Drive as your destination, this is the
address of the Campus Recreation Center. We suggest several alternatives:
Use the North Ave. exit to get to the pool and Ferst
Drive. Exit at North Ave. and head west toward campus.
We have been informed that the exit to 14th St.
and 17th St. from the connector will remain open, but that
traffic will be diverted at 14th St. You can take 14th
St. west to Northside Drive or Hemphill Ave to get to the pool.
You can use I 75 and use the Northside Drive. It is a
pretty straight shot from there to Hemphill Ave. which dead ends into Ferst
Drive.
The only other thing to look out for is the candidates
arriving and gumming up the interstate for a limited time. Again,
please plan extra time into your arrival for the afternoon session or
departure from the morning session and use your traffic aps to help
navigate the best route and get a good estimate on how long it will take to
arrive.
PARKING THURSDAY- As far as parking goes,
the W10 lot attached to the CRC will be available, as it is for al
sessions. Please remember you MUST prepurchase parking for this lot,
you cannot pay at the gate. To purchase parking, please go to https://gatech.parkmobile.io/events
to prepay for your parking. Overflow parking and parking for people
who did not pre-purchase a spot will be in the W02 lot, this is the student
center lot located at 355 Ferst Drive and is a short walk to the
pool. This lot will only be in use on Thursday. For the
Wednesday and Friday sessions parking will be in the W23 lot on State
St. My strong advice is prepay for parking and park in the lot closest
to the pool.
PARKING GENERAL INFO-
Coaches and team vehicles will NOT receive free parking
passes. Prepaid parking will be
available in the W10 parking deck that is adjacent to the CRC. To park
in this deck, you must prebuy a parking pass, you cannot pay at the
gate. To prepurchase parking please visit https://gatech.parkmobile.io/events
. Parking costs will be between $12-15. Overflow parking for W10
and any day of parking for those who did not prepay is located at the W23
lot at 905 State St for Wednesday and Friday. This is a relatively
short walk from the pool. A map of the area can be found at Georgia Tech
General Parking Map and ASA Parking
Diagram and Map Please plan
accordingly.
OVERFLOW PARKING AND NON-PREPAY PARKING
If you do not prepay to park or if the W10 lot sells out you
can park in the W23 lot at 905 State St on Wednesday and Friday. On
Thursday only the alternate lot is the W02 lot located at 355 Ferst Drive,
this is the Student Center lot. Both are a short walk from the pool. You
cannot prepay for parking in those lots, you just pay when you arrive, or
take a ticket from the kiosk and pay upon exiting the deck.
Again, the debate is at 9 pm on Thursday, so we anticipate
some impact for the afternoon session mainly, but it is something teams can
plan for and work through. Please be sure to communicate this clearly
with your team well in advance of your session. This will have no
impact on Wednesday and Friday’s sessions.
We look forward to a great meet and some fast
swimming. See you all soon.
