Another week in the books, hopefully you are back into the
swing of things and now remember how all of this stuff works. We had
another terrific set of meets, many of which were decided by a handful of
points. Thankfully, the weather was a little more agreeable this
week. We all know that is a very fluid situation (next week looks a
little rainy) and everyone’s safety and well being should be the first
thing to take care of. Please familiarize yourself with the league
policies on what to do in the event of bad weather, always have a plan
for what to do with a crowd in the event of bad weather. Use your
pre-meet planning conversation with the other team several days before
the meet:
Communicate the home team’s safety plan in the event the
deck needs to be cleared.
Possible make-up dates in advance of your meet.
Plan out how long both teams are willing to wait for
weather to clear before moving onto rescheduling or calling your
meet.
Refer to rule 22 on page 16 of the rule book for rules
governing weather impacted meets.
Further info on how to manage this in Swimtopia is listed
later in the newsletter.
In doing so you can communicate with your families before
they get to the met so they know what to expect. This will help
minimize the stress of bad weather the day of the meet and will avoid a
possibly contentious discussion about what to do if weather hits.
If you are looking for an opportunity for your team to
give back to the community, I encourage you to consider Swim Across
America. Their program benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s
AFLAC Children’s Cancer Research Program; as well as countless other
programs aimed at ending childhood cancer. For
more information about their program and how to contribute visit Swim Across
America
Please keep providing feedback from your meets. I
will pass it along to everyone, we all learn from mistakes and successes
as we go. Your feedback is important and will allow the league to
better the way it run its meets. So far, I think we have already
been able to help several teams, thanks to this invaluable communication.
Thanks to everyone for phoning or e-mailing your scores in a timely
fashion. If you see that the score of your meet has not been
reported, please e mail or phone it in ASAP.
Please communicate in advance of your meet with the other
team about important details on your meet. The home team should
reach out to the visiting team several days before the meet and iron out
times for lineup exchange, expected arrival and warmup times at the pool,
team seating location and specifics about how much shade their might be,
concession information and possible restrictions, number of lanes of the
pool, exhibition lanes in 5 lane pools, pool depth and starting
requirements and availability of blocks, a full plan for what to do in
case of inclement weather, a game plan for how long teams want to wait in
the case of a weather delay, and possible makeup date and/or times, as
well as any other pertinent info that will lead to a smooth meet.
