ASA Possible
Tropical Weather Issues Teams, As many of you may have noticed, there is a chance for
some rough weather on Thursday. Please start planning now, and
familiarize yourself with the league policies on what to do in the event
of bad weather, always have a plan for what to do with a crowd in the
event of bad weather. Use your pre-meet planning conversation with
the other team several days before the meet: Communicate the home team’s safety plan in the event the
deck needs to be cleared. - Possible make-up dates in advance of your meet.
- Plan out how long both teams are willing to wait for
weather to clear before moving onto rescheduling or calling your
meet.
- Refer to rule 22 on page 16 of the rule book for rules
governing weather impacted meets.
- Further info on how to manage this in Swimtopia is listed
later in the newsletter.
In doing so you can communicate with your families before
they get to the meet so they know what to expect. This will help
minimize the stress of bad weather the day of the meet and will avoid a
possibly contentious discussion about what to do if weather
hits. Also, don’t forget to keep your referee in the communication
loop with your plans. Our Tuesday teams have been well versed in
this so far this year, Thursday folks, looks like it's your
turn. Please remember, your original ref is your first option for
any rescheduled meets, check with them before they leave that night to
see if they can work your rescheduled meet. If they are unavailable,
please notify Franke and/or Evan ASAP to arrange for a replacement. Please remember a virtual meet is a good option to get
some swimming in, instead of using the weather tie as a solution. Here
are some helpful tips from Swimtopia on this topic, Weather Delayed
Meets Options to
Manage Weather Impacted/Rescheduled Meets. With
a virtual meet, teams have the flexibility to complete their meet a
number of ways. - The traditional method is to have each team swim their
events at a time of their choosing and input the times to complete the
meet (the steps in the link above walk you through it).
- Another option is to use the times from your meet last
week or next week, instead of having to swim a separate session to get
your times; one team or both teams can choose this method to get their
times.
- There isn’t really a set time to get the virtual session
done, it just needs to be something both teams align on.
- If all else fails, the weather tie is an option, as we are
in a limited window to get this all done.
I know the outlook is bleak for Thursday, but wait until
closer to then to make a final call. We’ve had several teams look at
a gloomy weather forecast this year and make an early call, only to watch
the weather the day of the meet not turn out to be a washout. Please
let me know if you need any further info on this topic. Fingers
crossed for this system holding off until Friday to let you get your meet
in. Good Luck This Week, |
